A crank is turned, which rotates gears and chains, which rotate a large and very heavy vertical axle, which has several metal rods attached to it. These rods strike 6 hacksaw blades of different lengths that make different pitches. This cyclical motion results in a rhythm that speeds up or slows down depending on how fast or slow the viewer turns the crank.
