about

The combine harvester’s reel (a series of wooden slats attached to a steel wheel-like frame), is mounted vertically. When it is turned, a series of gears and chains are rotated, resulting in the rapid back and forth movement of a large abstract metal tree with 18 branches. Each “branch” has a steel bowl-like form welded to the end of it, in which a Fischer-Price “Happy Apple” is placed. Each of the 18 Happy Apples (a children’s musical toy from the 1970s) jingles back and forth when the reel is rotated, resulting in a chime-drenched cacophony.
